Open Table: Emotional Anatomy & Structural Integration
This 7 day course introduces “Open Table”, an approach to using the circling tradition of Gestalt Open Seat within Ida Rolf’s classic 10-series of Structural Integration to examine how what we do, feel and think influences the shape our body takes.
What role does the fibula play in our feeling of safety on the ground? How do intero and proprioception influence our spatial awareness? How is the psoas both an expression and reflection of the autonomic nervous system? How can we positively influence the human form for greater emotional, physical, and spiritual agency? These and other inquiries will be explored in Open Table, an experiential, hands-on, body workshop in which the foundations of Rolf Structural Integration, the Feldenkrais Method, and Gestalt Relational Process meet our current understanding of trauma, brain science, anatomy, somatic psychology, and human potential.
Through the lens of Ida Rolf’s gift to humankind – the 10-Series – each day of the workshop will be devoted to one of the first seven sessions of her Structural Integration “Recipe”. This will include experiences in awareness through movement, lectures on emotional anatomy, Gestalt awareness practice, case studies, and the “Open Table,” where one student receives a session from the facilitator in the circling tradition of the Gestalt Open Seat. The group becomes a safe container and participants will find themselves having their own session as they hold space for the person on the table. Echoes and reflections from the group deepen this experience once the table work has come to completion. Participants will begin to recognize trauma patterns, structural compensations, and limit cycles in the human organism, trading sessions with each other and cultivating relational process, body reading, and movement integration to complement their existing bodywork acumen.
This course is designed for those who are currently practitioners of manual, movement, somatic psychology and personal growth therapies and have an interest in developing more knowledge and skill in body reading, emotional anatomy, the tools of touching layers of fascia, and how to help clients integrate table work.
